13 U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since Monday, 10/02/06, highest 3 day death toll since start of the war

The Blog, Mia Culpa, which has become one of my favorites, has an article today on the continuing high death toll in Iraq.

Thirteen U.S. soldiers have been killed in Baghdad since Monday, the American military reported, registering the highest three-day death toll for U.S. forces in the capital since the start of the war.

The latest losses -- four soldiers who were killed at 9 a.m. Wednesday by small-arms fire -- are part of a recent spike in violent attacks against U.S. forces that have claimed the lives of at least 24 soldiers and Marines in Iraq since Saturday, the military said.

This has not been a good week for me as I have followed the Representative Mark Foley affair and realize that our political leadership is as dysfunctional as the Catholic Church Bishops when it comes to handling pedophiles and protecting the youth of our nation. And then last night I watched the Bill Moyers PBS documentary on the Crisis In Congress outlining the corruption in Washington that includes Abramhoff, DeLay and other Republican polticians who basically are running a racket peddling influence and legislative favors for money. I never knew before how corrupt our government is. So much for democracy. These guys seem to all be psychopaths. And then to find out that the killing continues unabated in Iraq while the President, Rumsfeld, and Cheney having nothing new to offer other than "stay the course" and more of the same. One of the definitions of addiction is continuing to do the same old thing hoping for a different result. Of course, this kind of behavior and judgement should not be surprising since we voted in two alcoholics who never got any treatment or got into recovery to lead our country.
